Port Hudson Residence

Project Description

Nestled on a sprawling piece of land in a tranquil, remote setting, this residence exudes the timeless charm of traditional Southern homes, albeit with a unique twist. Its elongated structure has been artfully crafted to offer picturesque views of the serene pond and lush greenery from virtually every room.

The owner presented an intriguing challenge to the designers: to make the “front” of the house feature large expanses of glass, oriented to the south so that it would be a striking focal point when approached from the driveway entrance. In response, the architects stretched the roof and walls to not only provide breathtaking views but also offer essential shade from the intense southern sun.

With master suites on both the upper and lower levels, two guest rooms, and a cozy bunk room, the house is perfectly equipped to host an array of visitors. A loft area serves as a dedicated space for teenagers, while the expansive porches offer additional spots for relaxation and enjoyment of the surroundings. Among the owner’s favorite features are the hidden pantry and a conveniently located laundry room accessible from the porch, allowing muddy or wet clothes to be dealt with effortlessly.

The garage is cleverly separated from the main house structure, creating a porte cochere that comes in handy when the garage is filled to the brim with weekend toys. A screened porch adds a layer of protection from the evening insects, enhancing the overall comfort of the outdoor spaces.

Originally conceived as a second home, the owner is now contemplating the possibility of making this retreat, affectionately known as “The Lodge,” their permanent residence—a testament to the allure and serenity of this remarkable abode.
